An Incredible Continuation to the Spice and Wolf Series

This volume put a great story together from beginning to end. Clues are spread throughout the story for the reader to pick up on. The economics here deal with the "darker" side of dealing and trading in goods vs currency, so the author mixes things up a little when presenting resolution. We also get a surprise appearance from a character from way back, which of whom plays a major part in the story this time around. As always this is a must read for anyone reading the Spice and Wolf series, containing your fill of surprises, suspense, and light-hearted fun that we know and love.

Dan Slater is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago. His published articles can be found in disciplinary journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, the American Journal of Sociology, Comparative Politics, Comparative Political Studies, International Organization, and Studies in Comparative International Development, as well as Asia-oriented journals such as Indonesia and the Taiwan Journal of Democracy. He is also a co-editor of Southeast Asia in Political Science: Theory, Region, and Qualitative Analysis (2008). Professor Slater has conducted fieldwork since the late 1990s in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

This book has been a mainstay in Communications Theories courses in universities across America for most of the 21st century thus far, but it hasn't been updated much since its original publication in 2000. For a book that talks about Mass Comm. theories, it still provides a solid foundation as far as the histories of many theories go, but much of Severin and Tankard's commentary on technology (specifically the Internet) is laughably outdated. It makes me wonder how much progress has been made in the field in the 12 years since this book's initial publication.

Buy it if you must, but know that there are more up-to-date resources out there that deserve to bump this dusty tome from its revered position among college faculty.

I purchased this book as required reading for a graduate class. I actually meant to purchase the 5th edition, not the 4th. Still, after comparing my version to the one my professor had, I realized that the only difference between the two seems to be an extra chapter in the 4th edition. While the old theories may not have necessarily changed, I'm sure there are some newer theories or newer ways to apply the old theories. If anything, this book should be updated to include the most recent technology and social media.

Most amazing book I read in a while

Just finished reading this book. I got it the same day and after reading the first few pages could not stop until the end.
The first part is highly entertaining with bits of great irony and comedy. The second part was by far the best part of the book. Incredibly smart, funny and written with uttermost skills.

A must read for everyone. At least for those that fell in the I category ;)
