Should be on any ceramic engineer or scientist's bookshelf. This book is classic in it's presentation of physical properties of ceramics. Together with Kingery & Reed, Chiang's book makes a powerful trio in any ceramic engineers resource collection.

great book

That's not only a complete review about cardiac anesthesiology, it's a complete book about everything around the heart (physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc). Even it's not a big book, it is user friendly, going to the essentials without missing anything important.
The autors did a great job, resuming in several chapters cardiac anesthesia and more in a not to long way ideal for the clinician.
Much more better than "a practical approach to cardiac anesthesia" from F. A. Hensley which is unreadable because of the presentation. Kaplan's book is colored with enough images to illustrate the text.
This book is not only for anesthesiologist, but also for critical care physicians.

Should be about 100 pages

I wavered between a 2 or 3 star review for this, but I do feel like there's some good information here so I erred on the side of positivity. Here's the thing though:

Somewhere around the halfway point there's not much point in doing anything more than skimming the rest. The book starts off as kind of inspiring to be honest. We are agents of change, at the forefront of a communication paradigm shift, etc etc. The author has also spearheaded many creative and interesting online engagement campaigns for huge corporations like Budweiser. They are interesting and educational to hear about, though more nuts and bolts of how they were conceived would've been invaluable.

The problem is we don't hear enough about applying this kind of stuff, just a lot of empty platitudes most of the time. There's a very smart social media mind behind this book, but illustrating his methods on paper for others to learn from is not his strong suit. A lot of the info runs together (at least it seems to) and you realize pretty quickly that the book is padded to death. Some of the diagrams are ridiculous and incomprehensible. If you think I could actually connect 75-100 points of data on a chart (that looks like a two year old's drawing) and convince my boss that it makes sense and that we need a bigger social media presence, you could be convinced of a lot of things.

It's not a terrible book, but it's kind of like when a world class athlete goes into coaching and fails miserably. They're naturally good at something but can't communicate to others how to apply their methods.

PS: I was assigned this for a class as well and would suggest a chapter here and there at most. This kind of wishy washy content that's not applicable in the real world is what's wrong with contemporary academia.

Professors Please Stop Assigning This!

If you are looking for a book filled with technical jargon, long-winded prose, and out dated references pick this up. This book is six years old and like most things on social media, it is out of date. I find it incredibly hard to believe that the author is award winning, because none of his information is relevant. This would be a great piece to reference in a lecture, but not to assign to students. I'm sure this book was a lot better when FriendFeed (whatever that is) was popular, but it doesn't connect with the audience and ultimately it falls flat because very little of the content is actually applicable to today.

The usual apocaliptic

I was very dissapointed on this book. I could not find a single original concept or idea that made the book worthy. It constantly repeat the idea of "engage or die" and, as the usual apocaliptic analysis, does not go one step further on that. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.

If I had to use one word to describe this commentary I would choose, "meaty". There is a lot of information in this text. I believe that anyone who wants to understand the book of Genesis should have this book. I can't believe that as a Christian I had never heard of Rabbi Cassuto but I can understand why.

In my humble opinion, I would say that any library is without any of Rabbi Cassuto books is incomplete. It is a must have Commentary for the book of Genesis. I would also say that you may want to read his "The Documentary Hypothesis" book as he refers to it frequently in this book.

Also his commentary is unlike any Christian commentary that I personally have read. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.

This commentary is very detailed and sometimes difficult to keep up with, but it does not compromise, and very clearly defends the literal translation of the most important section of the Bible. Perfect for Christians seeking truth!

This book compiles what are presumably the best question-and-answer exchanges over the past two years, under topics including language, sex, immigration and food. Arellano wittily defuses bigotry and mocks stereotypes with his often well-researched replies. To the inquiry on the authenticity of flour vs. corn tortillas, he explains that the Spaniards created the former. "Why do Mexicans wear their clothes when swimming?" is a recurring question among Arellano's readers; his answer: good manners. In response to the vitriolic "What is it about the word illegal that Mexicans don't understand," he points out that U.S. employers don't understand the word either. The author's relentless irony and reclamation of derogatory terms (e.g., "wab," the Orange County version of wetback) is not for the faint of heart, but this approach is a welcome reprieve from common tiptoeing around the fraught subjects of race relations and immigration. The Mexican as myth debunker and provider of historical context

Gustavo Arellano's "Ask a Mexican" is a brilliant book. What's obvious when reading a book's length worth of his answers is how well-researched they are. It's a nice balance of referenced scholarship, combined with the observations of a street-savvy guy. First-time readers beware though: Arellano's work is culled from columns that appear in alternative weeklies, and it's got the language to prove it. It can be jarring and off-putting at times. However, most times it works, because the questions match in tone.

Arellano's main role here is as myth debunker and as one who tries to put Mexican immigration in a historical context for his readers. I've selected this passage from p. 40 as emblematic of his approach. A reader writes "Why don't Mexicans want to assimilate and accept our way of life?" The Mexican answers (in part) that "(i)n the case of reverence for one's roots, it boils down thusly: gabachos long-removed from Ellis Island can love their ancestors without shame because they're the descendants of immigrants, and immigrants made this nation great; Mexicans can't because they _are_ immigrants, and immigrants are turning America into the Third World."

Like that opinion or not, you have to give Arellano credit for superbly crafted sentences like that. The book is rife with them. It makes for a great read.

Amazing and wonderful cookbook!

Ordering this I was expecting a cookbook that has a few recipes that go along with the books/show. If that was your expectation, prepare yourself for an amazing surprise.
This is not only a cookbook that references the books, but takes the time to introduce you to the food, give historical reference to it, then walk you through how to make an amazing dish!
So far I have become very fond of Mrs Fitzgibbon's Overnight Parritch. The Rolls with Pigeon and Truffles are better than potato chips -you can not eat just one, and the Broccoli Salad is wonderful! Currently the Strawberry-Balsamic Shrub is just about ready to drink.
I am now planning on making every recipe in the book. The techniques are explained easy enough for those who may not be familiar, and a great refresher for those that may need to brush up on something.
The recipes are made with some very familiar kitchen staples with just a few items that are not usual in most North American kitchens. This does not mean that you can not find the items used at a larger grocery store.
Honestly, this has inspired me to not only read the series again (or in my case listen to them again) as I spend time looking for the perfect egg Coddler to purchase. The photography is stunning. So if you have not yet purchased this, stop reading now and do so!

Theresa Carle-Sanders is a trained chef as well as a food writer. Her recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. For those who are new to the kitchen she has a basics section at the beginning of the book which even includes a good tutorial on knife skills. I tried the Goat Cheese and Bacon Tarts, Mrs Graham's Oatmeal Scones, Hot Broth at Castle Leoch (Brown Chicken Stock), and Jenny's Hare Pie. All were very good. Exquisite! Even better than I'd hoped!

I'm a fan of Outlander Kitchen's blog and Facebook page, and as such, I thought I knew what to expect from this cookbook - a decorative reiteration of those delicious recipes and cheeky blog posts I'd come to adore. I've tried several of Carle-Sanders' recipes before, all with success, and as a general fan of her work, I wanted to support her cookbook as a way of thanking her for all the enjoyment her creations have given me.

Boy am I glad I did! And I was correct in my expectations, but only to a point - this cookbook has so much more! SO many more recipes, more beautiful pictures, more writing. She gives really good instructions, explanations of traditional cooking techniques and ingredients, as well as their modern equivalents. I haven't had time to shop and cook in the few days since I received the book in the mail, but I've really enjoyed reading through the recipes and fantasizing about what I'll cook first. Just reading through the list of recipes makes my mouth water.

Maybe I'll time out the recipe to coincide with the next Outlander episode, so we can dine as we watch!

A very well-written introduction

Jack Moran's book is an excellent introduction to the field of aerodynamics. It is written in an appealing lecture-like style which involves the reader. The explanations are clear. Moran has the ability to explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand way that enhances the reader's understanding of the underlying physics.
The book covers a variety of topics, ranging from potential flows to supersonic flows and turbulence. The physical and mathematical modelling are clearly presented. Numerical modelling is discussed in great detail for potential flow codes (VLM, panel methods) and Navier-Stokes (finite differences). Example programs are given in the book that can be used in computer labs (although they will likely have to be rewritten in a modern language as Moran uses old style Fortran).

Very Good Introductory Book

This is one of the most easy and complete introductory-level books on aerodynamics. It covers all you need, not at a great detail like ,say, kuethe does in his book, but it is a very interesting book since it contains even FORTRAN77 codes. Actually, F77 is a pretty old language, but all the codes contained in this book are easy, so that you can easily translate them in your favorite programming language. The book contains the fundamental aspects of fluid dynamics, inviscid flows, doublets, etc. An extensive overview of the panel method is given, togetherg with other computational means for analyzing inviscid flows. Finite Difference methods and Boundary layers are treated as well, both from a theoretical and computational point of view.

I would definitely recommend it.

An Excellent Aerodynamics Textbook

This book offers a very readable, interesting and up-to-date overview of aerodynamics. It is well written and well organised with clear explanations. The book is suitable for college students. It is also a fantastic tool for those who wish to teach themselves aerodynamics and have the background in physics and mathematics to handle it.

Major topics include a review of basic fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, incompressible irrotational flow, inviscid flow, wings of finite span, the Navier-Stokes Equations, supersonic aerodynamics, boundary layer theory, panel methods and finite difference methods.

Overally, an excellent book that is well worth having.

Fantastic review of one of the great men of science.

Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose is one of the world's forgotten heroes of science. Educated in England, he spent most of his life teaching and researching in Calcutta, India. Bose achieved a number of amazing milestones in his time, including the transmission of radio waves before Marconi, but being Indian, his contribution is often overlooked. While his accomplishments run into many volumes, this work brings together a cornucopia of the most outstanding achievements by way of an almost biographical display of his speeches and travels. If you want to read a brief history of J.C.Bose, there is no better place to start than with this journal of his life and achievements, his international travel and teaching. An easy read, lovingly reproduced. Highly recommended. 5 stars.
