Not a blueprint for building a business

When I stumbled upon this book I was really excited. Finally, a book that would guide me through the steps of taking my one-man consulting business to the next level. Maybe my understanding of the word "blueprint" is wrong, but I thought this book was going to walk me through the steps of building a successful practice. Instead it preaches methodologies to practice once you actually have a business running with multiple employees. I imagine the advice in the book is helpful to those people - and having read the positive reviews it seems to have been - but I was left knowing no more about how to build a successful practice than when I picked the book up. The bottom line is that the title is misleading - or ambiguous at best.

This book is basically an ad for HubSpot

Everything about this book screamed "buy me". Interesting ideas? Check. Best practices? Check. But it disappoints. Within pages you realize it is just a sales pitch for The HubSpot Way in disguise. This made me doubt absolutely everything it had to say, as I had to constantly weigh the potential for bias. Unless you want to become a HubSpot VAR, don't bother with this book.

I was thrilled to receive the book and immediately skimmed through a couple of times before attacking the book as if I were a student and it was my textbook. The book could go into more detail and the main topics I was interested in, small business or start-up applications, non-traditional pr, SEO, online advertising, content for social media applictions and other web based topics were not mentioned or barely mentioned. My first thought is buyers remorse. maybe if I put the book down and walk away from it, I will be able to see the value that seems to be missing right now. Maybe I am missing something. If so, please feel free to let me know.

What an impact reading this book made in my life. I felt the need to read it over and over in order to keep experiencing the sense of trust and peace that it gives. Absolutely captivating

Once I started reading it, I could not lay it down. Absolutely captivating. And while taking in the images, my hands were either tingling or burning with heat. It seemed as if I were receiving and giving healing at the same time. Images, feelings came up.
I could feel Myra's touch, hear her words and I was surrounded by her presence. Powerful, very powerful. One of the best books I have read in this domain. More than a simple lecture, it is a book you FEEL. You are touched by the unconditional love that transpires in its writings. What a gift! What a blessing to have access to such Love and light. I am filled with gratitude!

AMAZING STORY

"Lessons from the Light" is one of the better metaphysical books I have read. And because it is a true story, I was able to connect with the author in a way that isn't possible in other books. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about why we're here and what we can do to make our life more in line with its Divine purpose.

A sweet, funny read

Ric is hot and so lovable! I loved the author's witty, snarky voice, too--Sofia Lazu is definitely an author to watch. I had a little trouble liking Lexi at first, but she grows on you so that at the end I was rooting for their HEA.

Funny, hot, fast-paced read!!!

Lexi was bored with her job. It didn't let her explore her capabilities, so she ended up having too much time on her hands. Until she found this most erotic romance novel online and couldn't stop reading it, when she should be working. Better than reading her ebook, only doing it herself. But the problem was, she only wanted sex, not the relationship that usually came attached to it. Is love worth all the pain that comes with it?

Ric was surviving. For the last couple of years he has straitened his act, become the responsible one, but something was missing. He didn't know what, until he saw it; and decided after an inner debate, that he must have it. The problem was, the "it" in question hated his guts. How could he turn things in his favor to start living again?

Magic At Work has a very creative plot that kept me guessing until the end. The story is well written, with a few plot twists and a lot of good laughs.

The characters were good ones, but I had some trouble relating with Lexi. Ok, sometimes. Because, I could totally relate when she started reading her book and forgot about the world around her. The squirming on the seat while reading a really hot scene while you are in a totally inappropriate place surrounded by people. Yeah, totally relatable! :) But then, Lexi, described herself like that:

I'm stubborn, and I'm bitchy, and I'm whiny and weird, and I don't believe in love.

After that speech, I totally got her. She knew she was difficult and she was trying to work on it.

I don't know what is not to like about Ric. He is hot, smart, loving, perceptive, patient and has a British accent. Just to add to the mix, he has a big junk and knows how to work with his magical tool. As I said: HOT!!!

Ms. Lazu is an expert of writing steamy scenes. They are all so memorable and well developed, at the same time they are not accessories inside the story. They are relevant and great additions to the plot. Oh, I could talk about the scene on the desk, on the table, on the closet... yeah, MEMORABLE!

Oh, I can't forget to mention again how much fun this book was. I laughed out loud so many times.

P.S: I always rate my covers. I believe my reading journeys start when I choose the book. The first thing I do, is try to see what story the cover tells me. I would buy Magic at Work without even reading the blurb. Yeah, it's risky, but I do it all the time. Looking at it I would guess this was going to be a hot ride with some paranormal elements and a mouthwatering hero.

You MAY buy this book because you enjoy the author; you SHOULD get this book if you are looking for a panty-wetter hero; but you MUST read this book if you are willing to laugh out loud while suffering hot flashes!!!

Magic at Work was a very cute enemy to lovers, sexy office romance with a tiny dash of paranormal. The magical element worked well even for somebody who is not really into this genre.
Lexi has trust issues and feels insecure. After a failed relationship, she is working in her stepdad’s company. She has settled for mundane work. She has settled for sex rather than love. One day, she finds an erotic paranormal novel on her office computer and becomes totally captivated by it. Ric is the company’s IT guy who used to be a bit of a bad boy but is now reformed thanks to Lexi’s stepdad. He also appears to be Rex, the hot male protagonist in Lexi’s online novel.
Sotia Lazu once again showed that she can write erotic scenes with just the right steaminess factor. I like that she keeps it classy rather than swerving towards smutty. She created a great cast of protagonists and side characters. Lexi’s Mum and her stepdad were wonderful. The snarky banter between Lexi and Ric/Rex was hilarious.

Overall, I really enjoyed the narration by Hollie Jackson. She was great at delivering the humor and all the emotions involved. Her narration was lively and the voices distinct, so you always knew who was talking. The only thing that took me a while to get used to were the British accents used for Ric and for Lexi’s stepdad. They would have been more believable if they had been a bit more dimmed, not quite so much like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. There were no issues with the quality of the production.

This was a really funny, light and romantic story, which was well written and held my attention throughout. 4.5 stars

Stopping the Source of the Bureaucratic Stall

Many people in an organization focus on managing the boss rather than doing their own job. What better way to manage the boss than to constantly seek her/his guidance on everything? Then, the boss can be flattered that you want his/her help, and will also take the blame if anything goes wrong. Insecure bosses like to be involved, so that fewer "errors" occur.
This wonderful book points out that no one can learn without making errors. Also, if you and your subordinate are doing the same job, one of you is superfluous. A common source of stalled thinking in this area is focusing on the fact that you, as manager, can do the job better and faster than you can teach the task or job to someone. What managers fail to realize is that someone closer to the source of the problem should be able to come up with a better solution. Also, the time taken to teach someone else to do the task is usually much less over a year or two than the time taken to help someone learn the task.
The key problem is that we all like to fall back on doing what we are comfortable with and are good at rather than new challenges where we are not so competent. Banish that feeling!
This book gives you lots of practical ideas for how to respond to efforts by your subordinates and colleagues to delegate their work and responsibility to you. You will learn how to see them coming and to keep the monkey where it belongs: with them.

A new way to work less and be more efficient

The one minute manager's symbol, a one-minute readout from the face of a modern digital watch, is intended to remind each of us to take a minute out of our day to look into the faces of the people we manage. The monkey manger's symbol a stressed manager overwhelmed by a desk full of problems, is intended to remind us to constantly discipline ourselves to invest our time on the most vital aspects of management rather than dilute our effectiveness by "doing more efficiently those things that shouldn't be done in the first place." What follows, is a story of a manger who worked long hours and never seemed to get caught up with all the work he had to do. He learned about monkey management and how not to take initiative away from his people so they can care for and feed their own monkeys. In the process, he learned to be more effective in dealing with his own manager and the demands of his organization. The performance of his department drastically improved, as did the prospects for his career. The authors hope is that you will use what you learn in this book to make a difference in your life and the lives of the people you interact with at work and at home.

Although not well known outside his native Mexico, Casasola (1874-1938) was one of the "early masters of photo-journalism," writes journalist and novelist Pete Hamill in his stirring and informative introduction to this unprecedented and invaluable collection of Casasola's powerful images of a country in violent transition. Little is known about Casasola himself--portrayed in one photograph hard at work in his darkroom with a pistol on his hip--except that he started out as a reporter, then, around 1900, switched from words to images just in time to masterfully document two cataclysmic events, the horrifically bloody Mexican Revolution and the world-altering Industrial Revolution. Casasola recorded it all, photographing rebel leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, federal troops, rebel soldiers and the soldaderas (courageous women who cared for and fought beside them), and the dead. Possessed of a preternatural sense of the telling moment, Casasola also captured scenes sharply emblematic of the dawn of modernity on the busy streets of postwar Mexico City. Not as many photos as one would hope, but all the work of Agust�n V�ctor Casasola (who documented the Revolution) is something to admire. Unfortunately, it seems the Mexican government that holds nearly all his work, is for some reason unwilling to license or release most of the images in any form.

An excellent way to understand contemporary Mexican history

Contemporary Mexican history is definetely shaped by the events (Mexican Revolution and its impact on Mexican society) that took place in the early 20th century. Casasola could be considered the father of Mexican photojournalism. Along with many other photographers that followed his steps or worked under his wings, Agustin Victor Casasola left an invaluable visual legacy of Mexican history and the participants that took place on it (from the radical painter to the workers on the streets). I recommend this book for anyone interested on Mexican history.

Finally an ITIL book that I can use!!!!

I have been working on SLAs for a while and always wanted to know more about the SLM process. All books and white papers that I had until now were theoretical and pretty much were definitions of terms.

I purchased this book to read about SLA structure and I was shocked to read about all other sub-processes of SLM. I learned a lot.
And most of all it was easy to read and to look up a topic.

I consult for call centers and wanted to learn more about service levels. The truth is that i was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of details. Once I got into it, I found it very helpful, and written in an easy to understand language. I recommend this for anyone in the same situation.
