About the best acoustic wave sensors book available

This work does a pretty good job of spanning both theory and practical concepts. After an introduction it gives an overview of piezoelectric theory that is covered in more (but still insufficient) detail in Colin Campbell's book, "Surface Acoustic Wave Devices". The central part of the book discusses thickness shear mode, SAW, acoustic plate mode, and flexural plate mode sensors. The remainder of the book discusses coatings and other practical issues involving actual fabrication and use of acoustic wave sensors. The book gives lots of references from appropriate literature. It does present many equations from that literature that are given without derivation. In some respects these equations are only approximate, and it is left to the reader to discover both the physical derivation and the limitations of the equations. In fairness to the authors, the subject area is vast, and any reasonably sized book will have limitations. Overall, it is the best book on the subject, being slightly more thorough than Thompson and Stone's "Surface-Launched Acoustic Wave Sensors."

Perfect Day is Perfect

That. Was perfect.

Short stories are so often written like prologues, a well-written one leaving the reader wanting more. I've always tried not to downgrade a short story when I want more at the end, because I thought "Hey, I want more, that's good, right?"

But this. An entire story in 26 pages. There's no need for one more word - or one less. I even freaking cried a little (at work no less). It was whole, complete, and short.

And perfect. I loved it.

It's really tempting to give this 4 stars because any book with only 5 star ratings is suspect. But I am not family, friend, or paid flunky. I am a fan, but I don't 5-star every one of his books. This book really was that good.

Perfect read!

The ability of Josh Lanyon to tell a story is second to none. This is a really short story ; yet he manages to achieve in so few words what other writers often fail to do in a full blown novel -- he totally captures the reader. How is it possible to connect with characters so much, in such a quick read? I actually teared up -- that is how well he has captured the turmoil that somebody goes through having lost their soulmate, struggling to move on, feeling guilty that he is in fact able too. Just beautiful Josh. So very , very good to read a new story of yours. Welcome back :-D

A perfect jewel of a story for me.

Josh's new short story is perfection. Wyatt loves Graham. Graham isn't over his partner Jase, who was tragically killed. They go camping on a perfect day and in a few short pages we find out their personal backgrounds, current state and possible next step.

What really struck me while reading it is how well Josh manages to capture all those nuanced gradations of feelings and thoughts a person goes through as they come to realize and start to process that maybe their love might not be returned...ever.

I loved Wyatt's vulnerability, sense of humor, and compassion. Graham has Josh's signature intelligent, strong, stoic, taciturn leading man personalities, and it is easy to understand why Wyatt would fall for him.

It isn't easy to write a short story but Josh has managed to do this one very well.

Five stars because I love(d)the story.

My grandaughter had been told by her History teacher who had invented the traffic light. With this information she was able to dispute what was said to her. African Americans would like all of their accomplishments correctly reported especially to the new generation.

This seems to be another collection of fabrications, that would be nice if true-- but aren't. Rewriting history to fit an agenda is never a good idea.
The first known traffic signal appeared in London in 1868 near the Houses of Parliament. Designed by JP Knight, it featured two semaphore arms and two gas lamps. The earliest electric traffic lights include Lester Wire's two-color version set up in Salt Lake City circa 1912, James Hoge's system (US patent #1,251,666) installed in Cleveland by the American Traffic Signal Company in 1914, and William Potts' 4-way red-yellow-green lights introduced in Detroit beginning in 1920. New York City traffic towers began flashing three-color signals also in 1920.
Garrett Morgan's cross-shaped, crank-operated semaphore was not among the first half-hundred patented traffic signals, nor was it "automatic" as is sometimes claimed, nor did it play any part in the evolution of the modern traffic light.

The invention of the gas mask predates Morgan's breathing device by several decades. Early versions were constructed by the Scottish chemist John Stenhouse in 1854 and the physicist John Tyndall in the 1870s, among many other inventors prior to World War I.

This is THE BEST book I have read on math instruction. It fits my philosophy of sequential learning. It breaks every math skill into hierarchial steps, offers instructional presentation strategies, and assessment strategies. Every teacher of math needs to look at this book.

Love the book links don't work

Ok here is my dilemma I absolutely love this book however, I paid $145.00 for this book. ALLLLLLLLL LINKS ARE DEAD for extra stuff is dead. Pearson is no help. I am hoping that Dr. Stein might send me a workable link yes I believe in going to the top. But again one of the greatest books for k-5 math. Most helpful is when a mistake is made what is the cause of the mistake is given. i.e. 23 +65 =89 more likely rote memory than place value. OKAY Pearson gave me a link I am HAPPPPY HAPPPPY best book on DI and Math.

Susie Vaughan lives in Gwent, South Wales. She trained and worked as a journalist, then made her first basket with willow shoots from a fallen tree, following instructions from a magazine. She later took classes and became an expert, specializing in hedgerow baskets, using material found in urban areas as well as in the countryside. She gathers material from local hedges, woods and gardens. She gives talks and demonstrations and her work has been widely exhibited.

Where do baskets come from?

Vaughan's book emphasizes collecting natural materials for basketry, with neat color pictures of appropriate vegetation. The last part of the book explains simple basket-making. Great enthusiasm builder and very useful guide for collecting. If you want more on weaving patterns as well as materials, look at Jensen's book "Baskets from Nature's Bounty."

Best book for baskets from wild material

The book is wonderful: written in a very clear language with simple to follow instructions, color figures worth thousands of words and a really inspiring photo gallery. The book is purposed for beginner-basketmakers that will gather material by themselves. Contains an extensive list of plants and how they can be used. In this point I find it more useful than Elizabeth Jensen's "Baskets from Nature's Bounty" - the wicker part.

I bought the book 8 months ago, made my first baskets thanks to it, and got enthusiasm for many more.

As my baskets are not yet perfect, at first I bought some more basket books to find out the basketmaking tricks but the other books did not teach me much more. In fact I soon got lost in wordiness and all I had to do is to reread some parts of "Handmade Baskets" and take a quick look at its pictures to find out what I did wrong. Neither of the other books was that clear.

Now when I'm going through it once again I wish it was not only 80 pages because I want more:-)

Not what I was expecting

This of course is my problem. I had assumed from the title that it would use a lot of found materials and less common weaving materials. I was hoping for something that used grasses, herbs and other materials not the usual woody hard form materials. However it sticks with the traditional. Nevertheless it is a good basic book for someone beginning weaving.

An excellent introduction to the health benefits of coconut water

The water of a tender (green) coconut is a natural electrolyte, rich in potassium and other minerals needed. It is thus a natural sports drink. I knew that much before I accepted this book for review and was curious how a book could be written about that!

I was in for a pleasant surprise when I received this beautifully printed book with a colorful cover and found it well edited, printed well with a good collection of photos to drive the points home.

In 10 chapters, a few appendixes and 223 pages, the author succeeds in educating us about all the health benefits of coconut water. Did you know that Coconut water cured the cataract of eyes of a person? Well, I did not know that! Did you know that coconut water is a good way of detoxing without many problems associated with plain water fast and fruit juice fasts?

There are many more uses of tender coconut water and many of the same benefits are obtained from packaged coconut water too. Coconut milk is not to be confused with coconut water.

All in all, this is a highly readable book on the several health benefits of coconut water. I am lucky to be in a country where tender coconuts are sold roadside and also bottled coconut water is available in departmental stores just in case, I need to travel to places where fresh coconuts may not be available.

I am glad to recommend this book for all interested in health of themselves and or their family members, friends etc.

Invaluable information about coconut water, but the first part of the book is somewhat hard to read.

Firstly, I would like to explain that coconut water is the liquid found in the coconut, as opposed to coconut milk, which is a manufactured product produced by crushing coconut meat and extracting the juice.

Now, with regard to the book, I must admit that I found most of it extremely boring and thus not easily read, due mostly to its scientific content. Though the basic content of the book is absolutely important.

It turns out that coconut water is a superfood that saves lives. It can be used intravenously, its composition being "remarkably similar" to that of human blood plasma, thus making it more effective than standard IV saline solutions for rehydration.

Dehydration is a serious problem, for example, during cholera epidemics. Oral rehydration with coconut water has proved to be extremely effective, though there is much resistance to its use from the medical profession. Coconut water is superior to all other beverages for rehydration. Water is not enough, since the decisive factor is the electrolyte content of the fluid used, and coconut water contains the necessary electolytes, most importantly, it has a high potassium content

Coconut water is effective against Crohn's disease, strokes, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, edema, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, etc, etc.

I myself have Crohn's disease, but since beginning to consume coconut products, including coconut water, coconut milk, etc, I have had no episodes of any kind connected with this disease,

The book includes instructions on how to make coconut water kefir, how to open young coconuts (which, unfortunately, I have never encountered and can't get hold of), how to make coconut milk from fresh and dried coconut, how to do a coconut water fast and also includes a number of excellent coconut water recipes. The latter part of the book proved much more readable than the first.

Since reading this book together with another of Fife's books, on coconut oil, I now drink coconut milk and coconut water, use coconut oil exclusively when cooking, and eat the meat of at least two or three coconuts a week.

I would absolutely recommend this book for those in bad health or looking to retain their good health, since the information given as to the extreme nutritional value of coconut water is of absolute importance in my view. But you may need a certain portion of persistence in getting through the first part of the book, unless you are extremely motivated.

Good health information

I bought the "Coconut Water" after 3 month ago having receaved and rwad the "The Coconut Oil Miracle", and after that bought "Virgin Coconut Oil", all written by Dr. Bruce Fife.

It all startet about 3 years ago bying especially many healthy books, that is about eating the right things and doing the best exercice. It came when I discovered that there was something wrong with one of the bones, happely before it broke, and hade made an operation. And then after being to cholesterol measures for me and my wife in february last year, 2009, and for her getting a bad result, more books bying. And about the cholesterol it showed up, in the new bought books, that what I had learned i the 1960's when I was a teenager, and allso read in books bought i Denmark in the 90's was wrong.

But first in this year, 2010, after bying and reading nearly 100 books concerning (most) eathing and exercise, I came to the books about cocos. And then allso about this, cocos, found that it was much misinformations we had got in nearly all of the years since the second world war. Because we had been told about sorting fats in only good and bad and thereby cocos came to be bad. And then it has shown up that this was totally wrong, and instead all concerning cocos is the best we can get.

After readng the 3 mentioned book by Bruce Fife, and our knowings now a day, I think that it is a shame that in most of books concerning healthy eating the cocos is not even mentioned, even though it showed up to be the most healthy. But without doubt it wil change in the future, that is that all concerning cocos will get into the books about healthy eating.

All of the books written by Dr. Bruce Fife are written in good ways and have many good informations, bouth scientifically and about cases. And I'm going to by more of his books.

I come from Denmark but now live in Thailand and here we have cocos everywere. But after the cholesterol measure last year my wife by doctors was told not to eath cocos or drik cocos oil. But reading more than 10 books about cholesterol and the books by Bruce Fife I have told my wife that the doctors are wrong so now we nearly each day get something from cocos. I have allso tried to prowe it for the doctors,but they will not chance.
