I'm the type who could go on for hours about Holden and Pheobe and Ally's mitt and the girl who plays checkers and keeps the kings in the back. Everybody will obviously find their own meanings and understandings to these side reveries Holden takes us through. I just couldn't pass the opportunity to comment on the reviewers who said that Holden rambled and bored them in some ways. I wonder if these were the kids who had to read the book as assigned reading in a class they took in high school or college. I reccommend they go back.. cause I always go back to The Catcher and discover a new dawning of what Holden is trying to communicate to me. Try reading it again, it's not that big of a book you know. And maybe this time you'll see it's not really boring useless ramblings. It's a great deal more. That's the greatest part of this book.

Rambling .. So?

To the person who said Holden "talked too much" duder .. that was the point! I'm a female in love with that book and it's like, sometimes all you do is sit some where and ramble on and on about nothing of any importance. I think THAT was what made Holden so real. He over-analyzed quite a bit, which I think a lot of self concious teens do. I don't think this book so much describes all adolescents, just like Siddhartha doesn't speak the view of every Middle Easterner. You can't write a book and say "This here story is one that every (-fill-in-space-) can identify with." I personally DO agree with a lot of things he has to say but some of my friends think he is full of s***. Anyway ... thats my review :P

i see my self in place of holden he is so real .

This is one book which is close to reality, a book which relates to you ,as if i would have written this book if i ever had the guts to run away , to stay alone depressed and all . its hard to forget what your past was all the kids you meet may be good may be bad may be some you hated but its like you remember certain moments of certain days not that somthing special happened that day may be nothing happened but still you can picture it . Holden's character is one to which all the youths can identify with . I did not get the meaning of the title till Holden tells Phobey about what he wants to be , "THE CATCHER IN THE RYE".I probably want to be ,i don't know what but somebody different somebody good , a person who has certain amount of "HUMAN TOUCH". It is just that i seem to lose my way like holden. Holden was a dreamer , a child depressed by the circumstances . Its the best book i ever read or probably will ever read , definately no.1 book of all times.

About the Author
EE-NAH-NEE-BAY-EE, Singing Man, was born in Clinton, Oklahoma. He is descended from a long line of Chiefs and Warriors from both sides of his family. His mother, Killing After, is full-blooded Southern Arapaho. His father, White Eagle, was half Pawnee and half Kiowa. Singing Man is the Executive Officer of the Oklahoma Intertribal Vietnam Veteran s Honor/Color Guard. Singing Man served in the U. S. Army from 1970 to 1973, becoming a veteran of the Vietnam War in 1970-71. He was decorated twelve times while serving. In 1983, he started his spiritual journey and began to follow the Red Road through the spiritual ceremonies of his people. Singing Man is now retired and assists those who ask for help.

This book changed my life. You do not need to be a veteran to benefit from Singing Mans wisdom. Practice each lesson daily and go with a good heart and you will make progress. I continue to go back and return to these lessons if I have a worry or some other situation that is causing me distress. This book is the real deal. Ive read many others and found this to be good.

Achieving the Impossible: A Successful African History Survey

Paul Nugent has written one of the most impressive single-volume texts on African history--with a good chance that it is the best. This book reads smoothly while covering a vast continental terrain, including north Africa; and explores issues, questions, episodes in great depth. Nugent is able to handle complexity without drowning the reader in it. Perhaps, though, the most impressive aspect of this volume is Nugent's careful judgment. He also offers new themes to consider. For maps, charts, statistics, lists, the book is also excellent. It took a long time for this to be produced says the author. It was time well-spent. From the 1950s to now, Africa has never been treated better. The book is fresh.

Matthew Beaumont is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at University College London. You need tenacity!

The idea of this book was so enticing - I was reeled in by what it promised. An historical look at nocturnal London - fascinating! The reality of this offering however was a slow, turgid, heavy style of writing which was so ponderous - I got irritated, lost interest, found my whole effort to 'like' the book quite ludicrous.
I did give this book a really good try, 'gave it my best shot' (ask my friends who had long given up while I plodded on) but alas I didn't last the distance. A question : where was the Editor???

Walking the Midnight Streets

Charles Dickens was the best-known night walker - famously writing about his experiences of patrolling Victorian London during the hours of darkness in 'The Uncommercial Traveller' and thence in various of his novels. I was unaware, until reading this book, that the 'tradition' is as old as the city itself. Matthew Beaumont takes the reader on a 'literary walk' through the centuries, via the writings of the great, the good and the downright undeserving.

This is an excellent account of the tradition of staving off wakefulness by hitting the streets, and then using the experience as writing fodder. The research is extensive and impeccable, and there were many wry and amusing asides that kept me going through the 400 odd pages of closely written text.

I was given this book by one of my own readers who thought I might enjoy in it. Indeed I did. Recommended for all those interested in the history of London, seen from a very different angle. Also a fascinating read for ambulatory insomniacs. We are not alone.

This Book Tells What's Really Going On

This is an amazing book because it gives such an in-depth real example of life "upstairs". The book is very easy to read and quite interesting. I felt myself pretty captivated by it all because of its authenticity. No matter how outside of normal reality some parts seemed to be, it was actually plausible. This is, in my opinion, an advanced understanding of life outside of a human realm and a must read for anyone who is interested in what's really going on. There is a ring of truth that deceit just cannot mimic. I find Judy's writing very honest and real. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Excellent, but Aggravating

This an excellent book with a lot of great first-hand information on knives and their usage, and is well worth the price. The author did an excellent job, and whetted my appetite for an autobiography from him. He has obviously BTDT and knows his subject thoroughly.

My only gripes on the book are with the photos and captions. There were a couple of captions that obviously did not match the photos they were with and careful proofing should have caught these.

Secondly, and probably of lesser importance, I have never before seen a book with such intrusive copyright notifications. Putting them into the photo captions without at least changing the size and style of the font was quite distracting and eventually quite irritating.

Great Book!

The Tactical Knife is an instant classic. It's the book on tactical knives that blade aficionados have been waiting for for more than a decade. Personal anecdotes, testing standards and a logical but EXPERIENCED approach to the topic are what really set the book apart. The fact that the writer is a skilled wordsmith doesn't hurt either :).

This book reads like the author got all of his information from youtube reviews and forums, without bothering to differentiate between the informed and uninformed opinions. Some of the information is correct, but some of it is also clearly wrong. The author lacks any knowledge of important knife aspects like steel composition, ergos, and edge geometry. Based on some of the knives he chose to include, I'm not sure he even has a clear idea of what a tactical knife is (Seems like he just added it into the title to sell copies). He gives short positive reviews for everything rather than explain the features that make the knife good or bad. He encourages readers to go out and buy knives that were discontinued even at the time of the writing, and he omits many important newer models he could have talked about. The book is full of blatant typos, misspellings, and unfinished sentences, and is written with the literary tone of a middle schooler. I've looked carefully through this book, but I can't find any redeeming qualities.

Biochemists build on their knowledge of molecular structure and function to design compounds that can selectively interact with proteins in order to modulate their behavior. In this example (discussed in Box 10-B on page 280), the drug imatinib is shown as a green shape that fits snugly into the active site of the enzyme, blocking its activity and thereby inhibiting cancer growth.

Appreciating the structures and functions of biological molecules requires more than looking at pictures or reading about them. This book is designed not only to present information but also to help students develop the ability to answer questions, creating opportunities for them to explore and discover all aspects of biochemistry.

The best introductory biochemistry textbook for a 1 semester class

Pratt and Cornely have done the almost impossible. They have put together an informative biochemistry textbook that is very well designed and will not overwhelm students in a 1 semester course. The boxed Biochemistry Notes, Problems and Answers, and Clinical Connections are definite pluses, as well as the well thought out end-of-chapter question sets.

I wish the publisher would make the book-related online material available to all those who have purchased a copy of the book. Content on the WileyPlus site appears to be available only to instructors and students registered for a course. Those who bought the book for self-study are out-of-luck. That is unfortunate, as this is an excellent text for self-study.

If you have Lehninger get this too.

If you are using Lehninger buy this one too. It's not quite as comprehensive but it's actually possible to make sense of the topics with this book. Lehninger is clearly written by talented scientists but they are not so talented in the teaching and writing aspects of their bussiness. This book is solid on the science and very well written.
